Parlor is such a great band

I don't know anything about this band, don't know where they are from, don't know how they look except these songs in his bandcamp

http://parlor1.bandcamp.com/album/life-stays-great

The first time I listened them was in one of the MRR radio shows but I don't remember right now how was the guest who recomended it (my head is completely gone away, it's about midnight and I'm pretty lazy to check the maximum's site). Imagine Bratmobile after 1 week  listening Mission of Burma and Minutemen with a high dose of Vitamin C. The drums sound is one of the best sounds I've ever heard, one of the guys in the league of Murph from Dinosaur or Brendan Canty from Fugazi. I'm pretty jealous that they sound so good, I wish I can play like them.

And they don't like either...

PEACE

Some days ago while I was playing the guitar I was asking myself the meaning of my obsession towards the 3 chords structure, keep playing the same pattern over and over till the end of the world. Just trying to fit any silly melody or just a poor Buddy Holly's imitation.

--- The rock 'n roll structure is just the root note we are playing, example E, play it along the whole 4 bar then in the next bar we play it's 4th, that case A and it's 5th B. We got E=1, F=2, G=3, A=4, B=5. With this easy theory base we can play the whole Ramones discography. If you want to use another root note you just have to follow the sketch and find out his 4th and 5th ----

Leaving the boring music theory (that cancer that kills the inspiration, the spontaneity, the fresh artistic mind of the musician) and trying to remember the reason of my rock 'n roll 3 chords obsession, of the bubblegum  and silly pop I found that something happened even before to get my first Beatles: Live at the BBC tape or my first Nirvana record. Something explodes inside my mind like an electroshock that changed me at all.

This V.A. below was my first proper contact with the cool side of life. Besides I remember exactly how and why it came to me. Was a very hot summer, I remember wearing one of this sleeveless shirt with chocopops sticked on it from the breakfast time (as soon as I was annoying my mum I was pretty proud, so I used to tell herI was keeping it on my t shirt for later and she got angrier, mums stuff...). Must be 3 o 4 pm, the neighbours next door came over for a coffee, my sister was playing I her room with a friend and I wasn't welcome to get in, the freaks neighbours kids were punished because some stupid reason like crossing the road by themselves or to say a bad word (Like Todd and Rod Flanders). When you are little you use to be positive or negative, like the electricity, you are having fun or you are getting bored. After several failed attempts to pay my parents attention I came with the idea to get one of my Dad's record and play in the room next door loud as hell. The record was this Rock 'n Roll V.A. and when I pushed play and Chuck Berry started to play the intro of Roll Over Beethoven I became a stone. Magic? I don't really know, but something woke up inside me that made me feel like Marty McFly in Back to the Future and that's something I won't never forget, that rhythm, that guitar sound, feeling bad-ass, that scenario where having a good time is the only matter. It came, I know it sounds topic but I was made for this, music is so straight way of art that when it shocks it really does.

5 minutes later of my discovery and thinking "Why the fuck I've never pay attention to my dad's music advice" (I thought music was a bit boring to be honest, shit! I was only 10) I noticed some steps coming over  to the rooom, so I started to think about the worst, Dad is gonna yell to me but that's what I wanted... Anyway, He opened the door and saw me in front of the speaker with my electroshock face and asked me - What are you doing? I answer I'm just listening music like you use to do. Suddenly I realize that he is starting to laugh so hard in a very happy way, comes to me, proudly salp my back and says - good good good, excellent, I let you by your own, don't want to bother you. Like a winning lap for him, I can even see him thinking: I did it! So many years playing Hendrix and El ultimo de la fila in the car and he got it now! He went out and let me there enjoying Chuck Berry's masterpiece and no one yelled to me but He gave me the attention I was looking for. Call me egocentric, yeah, but I do like to act like this sometimes.

Since that moment the image of my dad toward my music education was the most important class in my life, he made me like the Beatles, Nirvana, Hendrix even before any kid in my class paid a bit of attention for the cool music. I was a weirdo and I'm proud.

I can't find any download link of the V.A. but you can check the tracks in this link:

Reunion with an old friend

My good friend Steve ( http://www.leftylemur.com/) gave me for my Birthday a 180gr cool copy of The Madcap Laughs. I remenber the first time I listened the solo work of the Madcap that I had this feeling and telling to myself "This is the music I always wanted to listen and to play with the guitar" and I had it again this evening when I turn on the turntable and I played this master-piece.

I wish I could have met him, just once in a lifetime and let him know that he made me realise over and over that you just have to make music for yourself and no one else.

SHUT UP!

FLIPPER at XOYO w/ GREY HAIRS

I've just come from the gig at the XOYO in this rainy 10th April 2012, I know I look like the sort of nerd waiting to come home to write on internet how shit was everything, but that's not true, I haven't written in this blog for ages, so I don't give a shit. Anyway, Tonight Flipper were playing in the Old London, here you are:

Flipper are old
Flipper know how to be on stage
Flipper are LOUD
Flipper are SLOW
Flipper is a BOMB
Flipper don't share their drinks
Flipper is mental disorder
.
.
.

But....

The best band (JUST MY OPINION!) was the opening one (AS USUAL)... Grey Hairs from Nott.

I didn't like Eagulls, I'm not gonna write about them.

Flipper are old but they know how to to drop an hydrogen bomb into the audience and you feel in any moment anything is going to explode, can be a fight, can be an anvil falling down the ceiling or it just can be a supersaturated Pro co RAT. I've been checking some set list from this European tour and they've been playing the same old songs every single night, those old songs really can fit in any generation massacre. We really need people on the edge pushing the violence that surrounded us coming from the human behaviour to make us feel bodies.
They were short, too much, I can't believe I'm saying that cos I always complain to myself about the length of some bands, but trust me, I would need an extra hour playing the whole gone fishin' album.
I'll choose  what H. Rollins wrote in "Get in the van" to describe the Flipper experience:

They were just heavy. Heavier than you. Heavier than anything...When they played they were amazing."

PS: I don't know anything about Grey Hairs, just that they are from Nott and the singer knows how to move, but I fucking loved it. It's the better description I can tell you.

PS 2: Rachel Thoele singing SEX BOMB, the best end ever!

The Young

I've been listening this album too much and I can tell you that it's one of my favourites records. The Young are from Austin, TX and they've got what a band needs: Good songs. It's seems nowadays it's important to get into a hype than writing songs into your own. I'd rather let to listen it than try to explain the influences, it would be useless. Ladies and Gents:
